Note: This is not a traditional hiking trail area in the sense of backcountry paths with elevation gain and scenic vistas. It’s better described as an urban park with walking paths. Located in Boston, Francis D. Martini Memorial Shell Park offers a picturesque setting for walking and running enthusiasts, with 5.7 acres of lush greenery and scenic views. The park is shaped as an elongated triangle and is situated between Truman Parkway and the Neponset River. The well-maintained paths and trails cater to individuals seeking an invigorating outdoor activity, whether it’s a leisurely walk or an energetic run. The distinctive Francis D. Martini Memorial Shell, built in 1960 as an outdoor theatre, honors US Army private Francis D. Martini who died in World War II combat. The Moynihan Recreation Area includes sports fields, playgrounds, and picnic areas, with the park’s scenic riverside location offering beautiful views. There is also a launch point for kayaking and canoeing. The venue is pet-friendly and offers plenty of space for pets to enjoy walks.
