Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park This easy loop trail covers 0.5 miles and takes approximately 12 minutes to complete, making it an accessible walking experience. The park preserves the site of the largest Revolutionary War battle in Connecticut, wherevisitors can explore the original fort ramparts, the restored Ebenezer Avery House, a Revolutionary War museum, and enjoy spellbinding views of the harbor and Fort Trumbull across the Thames River. A major highlight isthe Groton Monument, a 135-foot granite obelisk with 166 stepsthat offers panoramic river views. Visitors can pass through a short tunnel to the outside of the fort and make their way along a trench down to the battlements, exploring authentic Revolutionary War-era fortifications and defensive structures.
