Fort Dummer State Park This park features 3 hiking trails with easy to moderate difficulty. The longest trail, Sunrise Trail, is 0.9 miles with an elevation gain of 95 feet, while Broad Brook Trail is a half-mile descent to a swimming hole that is steep in sections with travel time of 10 minutes down and 20 minutes back. Popular trails include Sunrise Trail, Broad Brook Trail, and Sunset Trail. The 217-acre park is located in the Connecticut River Valley just outside of Brattleboroandfeatures a forest in the southern foothills of the Green Mountains with tree species such as white, red, and chestnut oaks, beech, maple, yellow birch, and white birch. Wildlife includes gray squirrels, turkeys, deer, and ruffed grouse. The park overlooks the historic site of Fort Dummer, which can be seen from the northernmost scenic vista on the Sunrise Trail(the fort was flooded in 1908 when the Vernon Dam was built). One trail leads to a swimming hole, andhighlights include a view of the village of Algiers and remains of the Boyden Farm.
