Edwin L. Smith Preserve Trailhead This 1,100-acre preserve features 10 miles of recreational trails with babbling brooks, picnic rocks, and quaint bridges in a gorgeous forested landscape. The preserve offers trails of various difficulty, ranging from quick easy walks to more rigorous half-day hikes. Trail options include both quick/easy hikes and longer moderate ones. The preserve offers several loop routes: the Fox Loop (2.4 miles), the Trolley Loop (4.8 miles), andthe Bobcat Loop (7.5 miles), which includes several Batson River crossings and follows the spine of Bobcat Ridge with many beautiful ledges through the most remote parts of Kennebunkport. The preserve features the beautiful Long and Winding Bridge through a sea of ferns. Additionally, the Brook Loop includes beautiful waterfalls along Round Swamps Brook. The preserve is home to white-tailed deer, bobcats, coyotes, hares, owls, partridges, turtles, and many other species. The main Steele Trail crosses the highest elevation in Kennebunkport and has many large ledge outcroppings, vernal pools, and rare and uncommon flora and fauna. The property is ideal for hiking, mountain biking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, bird watching and peaceful getaways.
