Eagle Cut Trail is a beautiful singletrack trail that bypasses the switchbacks of the CCC Road, making it an efficient connector for accessing Mount Mansfield’s western trails. The trail is approximately 0.3 miles long with an elevation gain of about 180 feet and is rated as hard. This trail was cut by a local Boy Scout troop to bypass the switchbacks on CCC Road. Starting from the Underhill State Park Parking Area in the northeast corner of the lot, the trail follows rooty and rocky tread until reaching the CCC Road in about a third of a mile. From here, hikers can continue to the Sunset Ridge Trail, which begins in the woods and transitions into the alpine zone with stunning views. This short but steep trail is ideal for those seeking a direct route to the CCC Road and the broader Mount Mansfield trail system.
