Dinosaur State Park This 80-acre park features more than two miles of nature trails winding through swamps, dense forest, meadows, and a traprock ridge, making it an easy to moderate hiking destination suitable for families and casual walkers. Trails connect red and blue routes via packed dirt paths and boardwalk sections that wind through red maple and shrub swamps, native plants, a butterfly garden, and vernal pool. The arboretum contains more than 250 species of Mesozoic Era plants, trees, and shrubs curated to recreate an environment that closely reflects the one dinosaurs roamed. The park’s primary draw is its remarkable paleontological heritage: the park features over 750 early Jurassic dinosaur footprints, one of the largest dinosaur track sites in North America, preserved and viewable inside the museum. The 200-million-year-old fossil trackway, nature trails, arboretum, and interactive exhibits bring the Mesozoic era to life. Note that the tracks are inside the Exhibit Center, with no tracks on the trails themselves.
