Devil’s Gulch, Eden, VTDevil’s Gulch via Long and Babcock Trail is a moderate hike covering 4.6 miles with 958 feet of elevation gain, completed inapproximately 2.5–3 hours. This loop trail has the same starting and endpoint, following a single route without retracing your steps. Devil’s Gulch itself is a 0.2-mile-long ravine with breathtaking cliffs rising above on either side, where the Long Trail climbs over boulders, through tunnels, and along ledges. The highlight featuresviews of Ritterbush Pond, where you can camp, fish, or skip rocks, and the unique geological formation ofjagged boulders in a defile—a long stretch described as a natural wonder tucked away from the rest of the world. Highlights include beautiful views, the unique gulch, and well-maintained trails. This is a popular trail for birding and hiking, thoughchallenges include muddy sections and biting bugs, so bug spray and extra shoes are recommended.
