Deer Run Nature Preserve spans 943 acres in Dummerston, Newfane, and Brookline, Vermont. Its public trails consist of low-gradient footpaths (8 miles round trip for all trails.)The main Deer Run Trail is considered moderate with an elevation gain of 990 feet. The trails take you from beauty spot to beauty spot—waterfalls, babbling brooks, ancient trees, stone walls, hardwood savannas, and spectacular views. Deer Run Nature Preserve is the first forest in Vermont to be recognized by the Old-Growth Forest Network. Additional highlights includethe Monument, a rock structure 2.2 miles from the trailhead (4.4 miles round trip), andthe site is a haven for over 70 species of birds.
