David Rancourt River Preserve is an easy 0.8-mile loop trail near Lewiston, Maine, taking approximately 16 minutes to complete. The loop passes alongside the banks of the Androscoggin River just beneath Deep Rips Dam and through the forest, with a few small sandy beaches perfect for stopping and relaxing. This popular trail is suitable for birding, fishing, and hiking. The preserve is named after David Rancourt, a well-respected deputy sheriff from Leeds who died young in a diving accident and offered diving and water safety lessons in the Androscoggin River. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.
