This is an easy to very short walk from Toomey Rd, with just a 450-foot trail through the woods to reach Cunningham Tower. The trailhead is part of the blue-blazed Mohawk/Mattatuck Trail system within Mohawk Mountain State Park and Mohawk State Forest. Cunningham Tower is a historic 30-foot tall stone structure built in 1915 by Seymour Cunningham, featuring a red tile floor, stone spiral steps, and fireplaces with a carving reading “Seymour Cunningham Fegit MCMXV”. The tower’s roof and second floor are now open to the sky as it nears 100 years old, though it remains an impressive place to explore. The surrounding trees have grown tall, limiting views from the tower itself, butthe broader Mohawk Mountain summit at 1,683 feet offers panoramic views of the Taconic and Berkshire Mountains, including peaks in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York on clear days.
