Cascade Falls Trail is an easy hike covering 0.5 miles, andit is a loop trail. The trail slopes gently through a mixed pine and hardwood forest and turns to the right along Cascade Brook, with forest wildflowers, mosses, and ferns visible in warmer months. The trail to the base of the falls is unimproved and quite steep, but when you reach the bottom you’ll be rewarded with a spectacular view of the falls. This area is a favored fishing and camping spot that later was the site of a slate mine operating until the late 1800s. You’ll notice the large amount of slate here which at one time was mined, and this area masqueraded as the Alaskan Yukon to film an old silent movie back in the 1930s. Additional historic highlights include an old dam that was built to create the Trout Pond, and an old cage which during the 1950s featured a bear for the amusement of tourists.
