Candlewood Trail is a 2.7-mile moderate hike located in New Milford, featuring New England rocky and rooted terrain with a steep climb to the top of Candlewood Mountain. The trail connects two Northwest Connecticut Land Conservancy preserves, with the first near the trailhead including a rocky ravine and an excellent overlook. Hikers will encounter the “corkscrew,” a giant pile of boulders where the trail spirals up through a mammoth heap of fallen bedrock. This trail is part of the longer Housatonic Range Trail. Candlewood Trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.
