The Porcupine Falls Loop Trail is an easy walk at less than a mile in length, featuring a mixed hardwood-conifer forest rich with mosses and ferns. Stone steps lead to Porcupine Falls, named by the Calhoun Family after creatures that inhabited nearby caves, and a bridge crosses White Brook with falls surrounded by rock faces and birch, maple, and hemlock trees. The Porcupine Falls Loop Trail is accessible during the summer and fall from the White Brook Road trailhead. The forest encompasses335 acres and was conserved in 2011, 2012, 2014by the Monadnock Conservancy, withthe property previously owned and managed for half a century by John Calhoun and his wife, Rosemarie, whose philosophy emphasized sustainable timber harvesting, improving wildlife habitat, and protecting soil and water resources.
