Brighton State Park, Island Pond, Vermont Brighton offers mostly flat, easy walking around Spectacle Pond, with a network of trails that includes Main Trail, Logger’s Loop, Shore Trail, Red Pine Trail, and other unnamed trails. The most popular option is Brighton Shore Trail, an easy out-and-back hike covering 1.5 miles with 78 feet of elevation gain. The Shore Trail goes along the south and east shores of Spectacle Pond to a rare red pine forest and to Indian Point, a spot to watch the sunset. Other attractions includethe Boreal Forest Trail, a 0.4-mile interpretive loop with signs explaining the plants, animals, and wild habitats of the boreal forest. The outstanding attraction of this area is its remoteness with mountains, fast running streams, and clear lakes, and it’s common to hear loons calling at night. Facilities include two sandy beaches, bathhouse, boat rentals, 5 cabins, 61 tent/RV sites and 23 lean-tos.
