Brewster Uplands offers seven miles of free public recreation trails, including a mile-long, universally accessible Pond Loop trail that takes visitors along the beautiful Brewster River and gorge to the west, as well as to vistas of Mt. Mansfield. Difficulty: Easy. The trails are broad and flat and well-maintained and undemanding. Trail Type: Multi-use loop and out-and-back network. The trails accommodate hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Distance: Seven miles of trails total, with individual routes ranging from 0.4 to 1.2 miles. Key Scenery & Highlights: The Alden Bryan Brewster River Trail meanders along hemlock forest and the tranquil Brewster River with opportunities to view river cascades and a short spur trail to Brewster River Falls. The West Farm Trail occasionally emerges from the forest to open fields and stunning views of Mt. Mansfield. The Pond Loop features a unique stretch of woods with an alder swamp and vernal pools. Notable Features: The mile-long Pond Loop trail and trailhead parking are universally accessible and ADA-compliant. Northern sections of the Alden Bryan Brewster River Trail are closed December 15-April 15 to preserve the area as winter deer habitat.
