Borderland State Park encompasses 1,843 acres with more than 20 miles of wooded trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The park offers trails ranging from easy to moderate difficulty, withthe popular Leach Pond Trail rated 4.7 stars and measuring 3.1 miles with 95 feet of elevation gain, while the longest route, the Borderland State Park Loop Trail, spans 8.5 miles. The diverse terrain includes rugged granite ledges and gullies in the first half, then passes by ponds and meadows with open views where you may see bluebirds, waterfowl, and other wildlife. A major highlight isthe three-story mansion on the estate, furnished exactly as when it was built in 1910, available for guided tours. Leach Pond was constructed in 1825 by damming the Poquanticut cedar swamp to supply water for an ironworks in Easton. The park also offersfishing and boating in the pond, and facilities for tennis and disc golf.
