Blueberry Mountain Trailhead – White Cairn Trail This 3.2-mile out-and-back trail near Stow, Maine is moderately challenging and features an elevation gain of 1,161 feet. The White Cairn is one of the steeper, but most scenic routes up to the summit of Blueberry Mountain. The trail follows an old logging road before climbing up stone stairs with moderate scrambling over open ledge. White cairns are strategically placed along the trail as navigational markers guiding hikers through less obvious sections of the route. Above tree line, cairns (rock piles) lead to the summit, which is recognized by its large cairn and geological survey marker, offering spectacular views. On a clear day hikers can see nearby peaks of Jackson, Tumbledown, Bald, Blue Mountain, and more distant peaks including Saddleback, Spaulding, Mt. Abram, North and South Crocker, Sugarloaf, and on very clear days the Bigelow Mountains Range and Mt. Washington in New Hampshire.
