Blackcap Mountain Trail is a moderate loop hike covering 4.1 miles with an elevation gain of 728 feet. The trail skirts the western shore of Fitts Pond for 0.4 miles to an intersection, where you can continue around the pond or head right to start the 0.8-mile ascent up Blackcap Mountain. Near the summit, a steep cliff offers beautiful northern and northeastern views. Blackcap Mountain is the site of many communication towers with a dirt road up to the top. The area is only open to the public outside of summer months; during summer it is closed as it is used by Camp Roosevelt.
