Birchbank Mountain is marked with a superb display of spring wildflowersand comprises155 acres of open spacein downtown Shelton. The White Trail is a 2.0-mile loop trail generally considered moderately challenging, taking an average of 51 minutes to complete. The Paugussett Trail crosses the mountain for 1.3 miles, with the north end between Round Hill Road and a scenic Housatonic River vista being moderately easy, but south of the vista the trail becomes very rugged, featuring walks over rockfalls and boulder scrambles—the most challenging section of trail in Shelton. The white-blazed Birchbank Trail follows Upper White Hills Brook as the stream descends through a small gorge and then a series of falls, slides, and chutes. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.
