Big Deer State Park contains over 17 miles of hiking trails and over 20 miles of gravel roads and multi-use trails suitable for mountain biking and horseback riding. The Big Deer Mountain trail passes through the forest and climbs to scenic vistas, and the hike can be out-and-back or a loop. Excellent views of Peacham Bog and other points west can be seen from the top. The park is surrounded by forested hillsides dominated by white pine, spruce, hemlock, beech, maple, and birch. The park lies near Boulder Beach, Kettle Pond, and the Groton Nature Center, providing access to swimming, hiking, fishing, and nature programs.
