Beartown State Forest This 12,000-acre forest offers trails suitable for all skill levels across easy, moderate, and difficult terrain. The flagship Benedict Pond Loop is a 1.7-mile interpretive trail, while a 7.5-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail passes near the pond and across the forest. An extensive network of trails offers chances to see deer, bear, bobcat, fisher, and other wildlife, with scenic features including brooks, beaver ponds, rich deciduous forest, flowering shrubs, wildflowers, and fall foliage. The pristine 35-acre Benedict Pond attracts swimmers, boaters, and fishermen during warm months, while the forest becomes a winter wonderland where visitors on cross-country skis, snowshoes, or snowmobiles can explore a snow-covered wilderness. The forest is a historic site with wheel-chair accessible areas, dogs allowed, and year-round camping available.
