Difficulty: Easy, with an elevation gain of 337 ft Trail Type: Out-and-back, 3.3 miles(Distance varies depending on which trailhead you use; alternatives range from 2.7 miles from Emery’s Bridge Road)Key Features: This 213-acre preserve features diverse habitats including beaver wetlands, the gorge of Orris Falls, the Littlefield Homestead, a large glacial erratic called Balancing Rock, and Big Bump with views of Mount Agamenticus from its summit when trees are bare Notable Feature: Balancing Rock is a glacially transported boulder known as a “perched boulder” because it was deposited by ice onto another boulder which holds the larger stone above the ground surface. The trail also passes a small falls, some hills, flats, and an old farmhouse foundation. Highlights include beautiful fall colors and well-maintained paths.
