Ashland Town Forest is a 616-acre parcel of open space located in Ashland and Framingham, offeringeasy hiking trails great for the whole familyas well asmore strenuous options with elevation gain ranging from 88 to 515 feet. There are over 6 miles of trails within the forest, featuringgranite outcroppings, upland and lowland swamp, vernal pools, mixed hardwood forest and several open pit quarries. From the Salem End Road parking area, trails include the red-blazed Red Trail and yellow-blazed Yellow Trailthatwind through peaceful wooded paths, stone walls, and small bridges over streams. The area has notable historical significance—during colonial times witches from Salem would take shelter here in the caves.
