This flat section is located within Falls Village and features a 50-foot waterfall that is spectacular after heavy rain or snowmelt. The first 0.5 mile of this loop section was built to be wheelchair-accessible per ADA/ABA stand ards as part of a landmark 2000 Trail project. The trail offersflat and soft walking under beautiful old pine treesand isa popular river walk with residents of Falls Village. For longer hikes from this junction, the trail passes the scenic Great Falls of the Housatonic and climbs to the top of wooded Prospect Mountain, then reaches Rand’s View, one of the most photographed viewpoints on the Appalachian Trail. Falls Village was known as Amesville 150 years ago and was a bustling iron works region that produced an incredible amount of iron for quite a long time.
