The Appalachian Trail passes near Mendon through the Green Mountains with varying levels of difficulty and spectacular mountain views. The trail splits at “Maine Junction” just north of U. S. Route 4, with the AT swinging east as the Long Trail continues north. The remaining 50 miles on the AT to the Connecticut River crossing are more moderate, providing a break between the Green Mountains and the Whites.
