Appalachian Trail – Becket, Massachusetts The Appalachian Trail near Becket is a point-to-point trail segment that is generally considered moderately challenging. The most commonly hiked section through Becket, known as Lee to Tyringham, covers 8.6 miles and takes an average of 4 hours 6 minutes to complete. The trail features expansive highlands, distinctive mountains, layered ridgelines, lush river walks and shaded glens. Key highlights include Becket Mountain with a former communication tower foundation, Walling Mountain, and Finerty Pond, which is surrounded by mountain laurel and spectacular in late June when in full bloom. There is also a popular side trail to Upper Goose Pond Cabin, which is staffed by volunteer caretakers 24/7 from mid-May to mid-October and offers swimming and scenic views. The trail is excellent for backpacking, camping, and hiking, and it’s unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring. The best times to visit are April through October.
