Airline State Park Trail North, Willimantic, Connecticut The Air Line Trail North is a 21-mile rail trail from Windham to Putnam, with the Willimantic section serving as a key access point. The route is generally considered moderately challengingand isa point-to-point trailsuitable for multiple modes of recreation. Highlights include a relaxing, flat trail, lovely views, and a beautiful pollinator garden. This is a forest trail, punctuated by ponds and streams, andfeatures a reconstructed railroad trestle crossing above the Natchaug River. In Willimantic, the Connecticut Eastern Railroad Museum has reconstructed the original roundhouse and restored the turntable pit, adding historic interest to the trail experience. The path is useable year-round, whether for running or cycling in the summer or cross-country skiing in the winter.
