Abbey Pond Trail is a 4.3-mile out-and-back trail near Middlebury, Vermont that is generally considered moderately challenging, thoughit is now challenging with multiple water crossingsdue to damage sustained during the 2023 floods. The trail arrives at the outlet of Abbey Pond at 2.1 miles and takes an average of 2.5–3 hours round trip. The trail climbs steeply for the first mile passing Abbey Pond Cascades along the way, then flattens out as you get closer to the pond. Key highlights include a very pretty and secluded pondas the destination, withmoose occasionally spotted wading through the water. Abbey Pond supports a community of marsh plants and animals and this trail is sometimes closed to protect nesting great blue herons.
